We are not just CAR members, but concerned real estate professionals across the country. We wish to send a message to the boards and associations that represent us. We especially want to make sure that what is happening in Chicago does not happen where we are. Our boards should be accountable and transparent. We pay their dues and it is only right that they account for how that money is spent.
We support Andrea Geller and others’ effort to get the transparency that they seek in how our dues and other fees are spent. No person who asks for that transparency should be the target of a lawsuit for doing so.
We encourage all REALTORS to be active in their boards and to seek transparency in the finances of their boards.

Badge Up!

Raise awareness that the Chicago Association of REALTORS is not being transparent and that all people who serve on committees and boards should not be afraid because the books SHOULD be transparent.
Get a badge for your website or blog or Facebook page to let others know that sunlight truly is the best disinfectant.
The key to creating positive change in our industry or any other is to create awareness. It is when members of organizations are not taking an active role in the associations that represent them that the types of things that happened to Andrea tend to happen. We need your support to reach as many REALTORS as possible.
CAR, Transparency and Andrea Geller
Like most disputes that are aired on the internet, there are a NUMBER of versions of the story. This is Andrea Geller’s story. Like many REALTORS, Andrea is a diligent and hard working REALTOR who is well respected among her peers. She takes the time to serve at her local Board of REALTORS not because she has to, but because she cares.
When Bob Floss, Former CAR President who was “impeached”, (or to be technically precise had his “term shortened”), the story about that action made the news. Andrea commented on that story -among quite a few other people, many of whom were calling for more transparency and a forensic accounting of what CAR had spent and where their dues money was actually going.
Part of the fuel for this effort came from the fact that even former members of CAR have seemed over the years to have questions about accounting practices. Part of the fuel has come from what many REALTORS have deemed exhorbitant salaries. And many have a lack of trust of the management team at CAR.
So Andrea continues to be an advocate for more transparency and more openness about the accounting and practices of CAR – even though there is not clear whistleblower protection available to her. Then the situation becomes even more inflamed and public as CAR sues their own member for Defamation and seeks 50K+ in damages.
Aside from the fact that we suing our own members is outrageous, we believe that at this point there is NO OTHER WAY to restore whatever credibility might still remain at CAR than to have them pay for a forensic audit and put it out in the open and transparently SHOW where and how they are spending the dues money of their members.
That transparency is needed BADLY by a group that has sullied its reputation to the point where many of its members no longer trust it to act on their best interests.
